Subject:Grade 2/3 Students Welcome Syrian Families to Canada
To:
At Ripley-Huron Community School, Mrs. Masrani shares important news with her grade 2/3 students on a regular basis.  Recently, students learned about the efforts of Prime Minister Trudeau to welcome Syrian families to Canada. This generated further class discussion on the plight of these families to leave their country due to war and unrest.  Students were asked to compare selected communities from around the world, including their own community, in terms of the lifestyles of people in those communities and some ways in which their needs are met.  As part of this project, they compared the lifestyle of a Syrian child with their own situation living in a peaceful country such as Canada.  The class then decided to make posters to welcome Syrian families to Canada, and tell them in their own words/pictures about activities they could do here along with some important things about Canada.  It was a fun and engaging activity for all!
